Over the past 4 days Miles has started a cough and cold. It really is a nasty mess when toddlers are combating anything upper respiratory. However, it is important to mention not to loose heart when your young ones deal with colds. Think of it as natural immunizations (without harmful chemicals:). Most of the time these colds can last weeks upon weeks with not much help besides just allowing it to run its course. I have found in my years of dealing with this crud that there are actual ways of naturally relieving and shortening the length of time you and your family have to endure it.
Apple Cider Vinegar is good…. well for anything. It’s liquid gold if you ask me. Among the many benefits it provides when dealing with mucous and congestion it provides relief by breaking up the phlegm, alkalizes the intestines and restores the PH balance.
Raw honey- It’s antibiotic properties are effective in treating colds and sore throats. Raw honey coats the throat and reduces irritation.
Lemon- It’s strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers. Lemons contain many substances like citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and limonene that promote immunity and fight infection.
Cinnamon- Has been used since the biblical era for medicinal purposes. Most commonly used at the onset of cold and flu. It has anti bacterial and anti viral properties.
Home Made Cold/Cough Relief
1/3 Cup Organic, Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar
Splash of filtered water to dilute to your preference
Half a lemon squeezed
1-2 spoonfuls of RAW honey
Sprinkle of cinamon
Toddlers over the age of 12 months use 1 full tablespoon or syringe full. Put the rest in the fridge and give 2-3 times throughout the day. Adults drink the full mix morning and make again at night. My kids have become very used to it. Miles even enjoys it:) The raw honey gives tons of sweetness and the cinnamon cuts the vinegar. I notice relief almost immediately and can provide healing quick from the cold virus!
