Product Highlight: Arbonne

September 10, 2014

I am slowly in the process of revamping my beauty products to be less toxic. It’s difficult to switch when you have been using cheap products like cover girl that are highly toxic but incredibly affordable and achieves a look you are used to. But nonetheless I have been on the lookout for anything that is better than what I use.

A dear friend of mine who is a consultant for Arbonne contacted me and wanted to give me samples of their make up and shampoo/conditioner. She loaded me up and I slowly began trying it out and fell head over hills for the liquid foundation. I am normally a liquid powder compact kind of gal but I was truly in love with the way it made my skin look and feel. Even better I was amazed by the longevity and freshness of the foundation that even after a 12 hour wedding I still was wearing makeup!

If you use conventional makeup products you can check toxicity levels by visiting the EWG Skin deep site which rates makeup lines and shows the level of hazard and a detailed summary of ingredients and effects to your health. Since most Arbonne products are used with natural plant ingredients I defiantly consider this a step up from the covergirl line.

Not only was I impressed with the make up but even more so from the shampoo + conditioner. My girls have a ton of hair and I am always on the lookout for natural products that will help with detangling. But I also have needed a less toxic ingredient product that give similar results for my color treated hair. I loved the results from the FC5 Nourishing Daily Shampoo + conditioner. My hair was smooth not frizzy with just enough moisture. It worked brilliantly on the girls hair making brushing less of a dramatic experience.

Arbonne certainly has a unique beauty line and I love what the products achieve. I was satisfied knowing that the majority of the ingredients are derived from plants and not from harmful ingredient like quaternium 15 and formaldehyde making Arbonne a much better choice than products like covergirl or Maybeline. I am thrilled to have safer options available and defiantly recommend trying out Arbonne products!

Artist Highlight: Heylee B. Cosmetics

August 19, 2014

My beautiful and talented friend Heylee Achten is the head hancho over at HeyleeB.COM . Not only does she have her own online boutique but she is in an incredible makeup artist with her own makeup line. (Check it out HERE)! I asked/begged her to give me a makeover so that I could experience her talent! I have been doing the same makeup routine with a few tweaks since high school and admit that I’m defiantly in a rut. It’s caused me to be a little close minded in trying anything fresh and I knew by asking Heylee to glitz me up I would gain a fresh perspective and learn new ideas. You can find more of Heylee’s makeup tutorials on her BLOG

I present my afternoon getting an awesome Heylee makeover!

You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman

July 22, 2014

About a month ago I had a member of our extended family on my husbands side contact me about a natural toxic free makeup line that she sells. I was highly intrigued and she was kind enough to send me some of the makeup lines top sellers to review and share. Oddly enough, her name is also Jessica Gann and apparently she has even had a mixup at the doctors office when they pulled up background info on me instead of her. Small world indeed.

One of the last clean makeover’s I have been working on in my home are my beauty products. I am very excited to share YOUNIQUE makeup line.

Did you know that the conventional make up you are slathering on your skin daily is full of dangerous chemicals? If you turned your mascara tube around I highly doubt you could even pronounce any it’s ingrediants. But the mascaras that help achieve fuller, longer looking lashes contain ingredients that are cheap to obtain and a harm for your health. Here are 4 of the many chemicals you should be aware of:

Parabens, hygienic preservative used in mainstream beauty products. Parabens are known to disrupt estrogen in the body, also known as the endocrine disrupter

Aluminum Power- metallic substance used as a cosmetic colorant and is a neurotoxin. Neurotoxins are interferes with a variety of cellular and metabolic processes in the nervous system.

Propylene Glycol– causes severe skin irritation and sensitization in people. The allergic reaction will show up as a red, inflamed rash that is accompanied by itching and minor pain.

Retinyl Acetate– this harmful ingredient is ranked as a high concerned according to the EWG because it can cause biochemical or cellular level changes!!

I was pretty impressed receiving the YOUNIQUE products and seeing the tiny ingredient list. I loved that the listed ingredients were more like green tea fibers rather than parabens and artificial fragrances.

The other problem I have found with natural beauty products is finding a line that achieves the same look that the conventional lines gives. I certainly don’t want the chemicals from my old store bought makeup but really want the same results. I have to admit I was pretty excited about this makeup line wanted to see if it could achieve what I have been looking for.

I adored all the packaging that everything came in and thought how brilliant to help keep things organized!

The hype with the YOUIQUE mascara line is the ability to create long, false looking lashes. I wanted to put it to the test and decided to not use my lash curler to see how well it worked. I was pretty impressed.

Here are my results from Younigue 3D Fiberlash:

Before with no mascara and uncurled lashes.

After applying the mascara

If you want to check out more of the YOUNIQUE products you can visit and shop right from Jessica’s personal website HERE and shop for the 3D Fiber Lashes HERE .

Our skin is incredibly important and absorbs chemicals and toxins at high dosages. It is important to clean up the products that you use on your skin. They can have just as big of an impact as foods that we consume daily!

Little Adi + Co

May 7, 2014

I am so thrilled to introduce to you the coolest Lil T’s around and the heart and soul behind the buss, Adrianne Betz of Little Adi +Co. I discovered her rad graphic T’s on Instagram and immediately knew I wanted her brand on my blog. I have had the privilege to connect with some pretty creative mom’s pursing their passion and It continuously inspires me. Just because we become mother’s never means that we can’t follow our passions and very often motherhood is what gives us the confidence to do so. I am so happy to introduce and allow a little peak into the life of Adrianne.

1) Tell us a little bit about your family?
My husband, James and I are high school sweethearts (He was 18, I was 15). We moved to NYC together to attend college where we inevitably moved in together, hustled in our careers (He’s an epidemiologist, I was a Fashion Designer), got married in Mexico (2011) and in the Summer of 2012 moved from Brooklyn, NY to Charleston, SC to pursue a major career opportunity for my husband. I had been in the industry for a good 10 years, so although I was sad to leave, I was relieved to have been given this time to start a family and focus on being a mother and wife. We had our son, Aden Rhys in September 2013 and 6 weeks later I decided to start Little Adi. My husband is my business partner and Aden my muse. We have a 4yr old Shiba Inu, named Coba that we can’t get enough of as well.

2)What is your biggest struggle with managing a business and being a mom?
Being a mom and running a business are more similar than you would think. Neither role ever stops. When you run your own business, it’s all you think about 24/7. Your customers expect you to answer emails within a few hours or respond to questions on Instagram almost immediately. If some needs to change their order, or has a problem, they want an immediate response. When your a mom, all that matters is your child, 24/7. Your child also needs you to respond to his needs immediately. The struggle for me is being present in the moment. I want to be “with” my child when I’m with him. I don’t want to answer emails, I don’t want to text, I don’t want to be thinking of what’s next or what needs to be done on my to do list. I’m trying very hard to make dedicated time for the business. Like only checking emails between 10-11am during his morning nap or only posting/checking Instagram once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and before I go to bed at night. When I started the business I immediately made a point to only pack+ship or sew after Aden went to bed. The thing is when you first start, you don’t realize all the little things that make the business tick day to day. If you’re not careful, they can consume you. I still struggle with all of that, but I think I’m getting better. I’m learning to get help with things that I don’t necessarily need to be in control of.
image3)What are your future goals with Little Adi +co?
I would love to see Little Adi + Co. expand and continue to grow into a successful children’s wear business. I don’t want to promise anything, but I do see our girl product expanding soon. I also think our size range will broaden to include sizes for bigger kids. My goal for the next year is to really expand our product assortment. I want Little Adi to grow organically and stay true to who we are. I want to continue to put product out that we believe in and not just do things for the sake of doing them
image
4)What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start up their own business?
Network – get as much experience as possible. Connect with your customers – BE your customer. Honesty and originality go far. Be humble – there is always something to learn. Don’t get into it for the wrong reasons – have passion for your product, it’ll be what carries you through. Don’t compare – Do you.
And, the truest and most honest advice I can give is: There will be a time (multiple, actually) that you will want to throw in the towel. You’ll encounter those people that want to tear you down, the mean emails, the knock-offs, the people that will just sh*t on you and make you feel inadequate. It’s normal. Totally normal. It comes with the territory. Let it toughen your skin, let it show you what not to be, and always, always kill ‘em with kindness. When you have the hard days, break out what made you do this in the first place. The product, the sewing, the sketching? Pull it out, do it. Don’t let outside factors effect the state of your business.

I was so thrilled to receive our Little Adi + Co T’s! The material was incredibly soft and the design was beautiful, just as seen on the site. Ada and Miles gladly modeled for me and in my opinion did an adorable job doing so!

Miles is wearing “Be a Little Wild”

Ada is wearing “The Tribe”

Get Invited: Woven Event Co

May 5, 2014

Meet the beautiful and talented Ashley Macco. She is the owner of Woven Event Co and one of my dearest friends. Her business started in the corporate marketing world, where she was designing materials and planning various events. After five years or so doing those things for someone else’s company, she decided it was time to quit signing the back of the paycheck and start signing the front.

She started Woven Event Co., a full service corporate event planning firm.  A few months into it, she kept receiving requests from client’s just for design work, and more specifically for invitation design.

She had designed dozens of invitations prior to starting her own company, so she obliged her clients and got to work. Soon after, Ashley realized that she loved designing, and has slowly evolved into a design firm rather than planning full events.

“What started out as a passion for starting my own events company has evolved into a love of designing the pieces that go along with the planning.”

Ashey’s Etsy page is full of original designs and templates to chose from for weddings, baby showers, birthday’s or just about anything event wise you may need.

Find Woven on Facebook, like her page and keep updated on new designs & ETSY to contact, order and customize your woven invites by Ashley.

It is so great to support local and small business! Go check out Woven Event Co!

Sup’ Miles

March 28, 2014

A few weeks back I stumbled upon the most Ahh-dorable kids T’s. The online site is called Finomenon Kids and they are super rad. I couldn’t resist their “SUP” tank and was itching for Miles to have it. Once we got our hands on one I had to dress him up and do a photo shoot. This lil T is vintage soft and the perfect heather grey. Miles is wearing a 4T (runs a little small).

Makel is a young mom who just started Finomenon Kids last December.  She already has so many cute products and I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with this year!

Sweet T’s

February 5, 2014

My husband has been on a T’shirt roll lately. Being the creative that he is it’s fun for him to play around with other avenues of design outside of work. When he was asked to design these shirts he went straight to the sketch pad and started hand designing these scripts. The outcome is pretty rad and as his wife am pretty proud to wear them around. Visit the links under the images if you wanna grab one for yourself!
